The week started with my first attempt at an ultra-wide lens.  I'm going to try to use this lens weekly until I get the hang of it.   More flowers mid-week, then Memorial Day weekend on Martha's Vineyard capped off the photos.

Week 5 - Martha's Vineyard Season Begins

The Martha's Vineyard season has begun for me - we'll be spending most weekends on the Island.  So expect more Vineyard photos and less Westford photos.  I hope there will be many fish photos (boring to some, not so boring to others).  The weather has been rainy, foggy, and just down right lousy.  But I think I took some decent photos this week...

Week 4 - More Spring

The Spring flowers are giving me a good colorful subject to take photos of.  It makes me wonder what I'll be taking pictures of come January/February 2012?

This week started with seeing the Celtics lose Playoff Game 4 against the Miami Heat.  It ended with Thomas' 1st Communion.

Oh, and I did acquire 2 new lenses this week.  A wide angle Tokina 11-16mm f2.8, which I plan to use for Martha's Vineyard beach photos, and a Nikkor 35mm f/1.8, which I used for the last shot (Thomas) this week.

Project 48

Beyond  my professional passion of delivering software products, my personal passions include running, fishing and photography (not necessarily in that order!).   I've decided to kick off a year long project with one of my passions:  photography.  I plan on taking at least one picture a day during my 48th year here on earth.  People have done this before.  I haven't.  There are a number of groups on Flickr and such where people take a photo of themselves every day.  I won't be doing that, specifically.  I'm viewing this effort as a photo journal of sorts, of my 48th year, that will hopefully including a good portion of  nice photos in the mix.

My goals:
  1. Learn more about my camera(s) and photography.
  2. Use and learn all of my lenses.
  3. Become better at photography.
  4. Have fun and capture some great photos.

My rules:
  1. I must personally take the photo.
  2. I must take at least one photo each day, from April 17, 2011 up to and including April 16, 2012.
  3. Any digital camera is allowed, including my iPhone, though I will give preference to my DSLR, currently a Nikon D80.
  4. Any settings on the camera are allowed.
  5. Any subject matter is allowed. Some pictures will be boring (hopefully not many), and hopefully some will be interesting to great.
Equipment at the start of this project (yes, assumption is this will change over the year!):

Cameras:
  • Nikon D80
  • Nikon CoolPix S70
  • iPhone 4
 Lenses:
  • Nikkor 18-200mm VR 3.5-5.6G
  • Nikkor 50mm 1.8D
  • Nikkor 18-55mm VR 3.5-5.6G

I'll post weekly entries here that will include the 7 photos of that week.

Perhaps in some future year I'll fish every day of the year... I can't wait!

Self Portrait, Day 1, in Washington DC.
