Week 14 - Spectacular Skies

This week's first and last photos were taken in almost the same location - the Cape Poge area on Chappaquiddick.  Interestingly, 5 of this week's 7 photos were taken on Martha's Vineyard.  This may not surprise any of you readers, but did me!

Week 13 - First Raspberries of the Season

More flowers this week. And also, as the title of this post indicates, some fresh raspberries.  Some repeat photos this week (over and above the flower photos, of course).  I hope to look back at the end of this project see improvement over repeat subject matter.  I hope.

Week 12 - Summer Vacation

This week was my July 4th Summer Vacation week on Martha's Vineyard.  I spent most days on the beach and found that I was not taking as many photos due to the strong daytime sun, distractions, and lots of water and sand.  Fishing was slow, but relaxing.  I caught the random big bluefish here and there, but did not have my camera with me, unfortunately, as I was waist deep in the surf.  Here's this week's photos:

Week 11 - Summer Begins

The last week of June is one of my favorite weeks - Summer is just starting and I'm about to spend a week's vacation on Martha's Vineyard.  This week of photos ended while I was on vacation, thus the late posting. I've got a new week, the vacation week, coming in the next day or two.  Here's this week's photos:

Week 10 - Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket

This week I had the opportunity to spend 3 days on Nantucket, fishing in the Martha's Vineyard Surfcasters vs. Nantucket Anglers Club.  The tournament pairs a MV fisherman with a Nantucket fisherman and you stay at that person's house and fish with that person. Each year the location switches.  This year it was Nantucket. It is the second year I've participated and I've had a great time and made a bunch of new friends.  We lost the cup this year but it didn't matter - it was great fishing, great food, and great fun.

Day 70/June 25 - Miacomet Surfcasters
Just after arriving on Friday, prior to the start of the weekend-long 2011 Nantucket Anglers Club vs. Martha's Vineyard Surfcasters tournament, Peter Sliwkowski, mimicing Nathan Horton of the Bruins, poured "Martha's Vineyard water" into Nantucket Harbor.  Unlike the Bruins, however, we did not win the cup!  Nantucket beat us this year, catching over 30lbs more fish than the Vineyarders.

Day 69/June 24 - Boston Bruins "Good Luck Charm" Fails Vineyard Anglers

Day 68/June 23 - Steamship Mooring Rope
It rained hard all day on June 22nd. While not one of my better photos, I liked how you can see the rain streaks above the  flowers, almost matching the lines of the thin flower stalks.  After seeing these rain streaks when looking at the photo on the computer, I wish I had taken many more shots at varying slow shutter speeds.

Day 67/June 22 - Rain Falls on Lychnis Flowers

Day 66/June 21 - Looking Up
While leaving Martha's Vineyard on the Ferry, I spotted this huge yacht docked near just past The Black Dog restaurant.  There was something about being in the bowels of a big ship peaking out at a luxury yacht that made me choose this shot as my photo of the day.  Incidently, this yacht, a 170+ foot super yacht called "Quantum of Solace", is for sale for $24.5 million.

Day 65/June 20 - Leaving Paradise
While waiting for the Chappaquiddick "On Time" Ferry to return me to Edgartown, I pulled out my wide-angle lens and took this photo.  I'm still learning this lens, and can't wait to try it out on the Gay Head Cliffs later this summer.

Day 64/June 19 - Chappy Point

Week 9 - Nikon D7000

I got a new camera!  A Nikon D7000 as an anniversary gift from my (great) wife!  This week was my transition from the Nikon D80 to the D7000.  The D7000 has a lot of new features to learn (focus area settings in particular) and supposedly much better pictures in low light (better high ISO noise reduction).   So I'm going through a mini-re-learning process with the camera.

Here's this week's photos:

I never realized, until June 18th 2011, that Chappy  apparently has a UPS office.  Here it is, along with a customer picking up a package inside.  There are even "office hours" posted on the door.  The UPS office is conveniently located next to a porta-potty and a few abandon cars (not seen in this photo, thankfully). While not one of my best photos of this day, I couldn't resist making it my Day 63 photo.

Week 8 - Flowers and Fish

Taking pictures of flowers isn't my passion.  The thing is, I like to take outdoor photos, and I like pictures with different color.  All green tree/grass photos are boring.  And I haven't gotten into portraits (yet).  Sometimes I wish I lived in a city so that I could take city pictures, but then that feeling quickly passes a nano-second later.  I'd love to take all photos of fish - but that would probably get tiresome (no, not really).  Anyway, here's this week's 7 photos.  Thanks for viewing.
